Start optical link selection with the endpoints

The same data rate can use different packages, lane arrangements and fiber systems. A suitable starting point is the named host port and the physical route, not only a label such as 400G or 800G. Use the following decisions to narrow the relevant product family.

Package and port mode

Check the cage, electrical lanes, breakout support and host requirements. QSFP-DD and OSFP are not interchangeable simply because both can support a particular aggregate speed.

Fiber and optical path

Identify installed fiber, connector, polarity, route length and loss. Parallel-fiber and duplex-fiber schemes can require different cabling even at the same speed.

Acceptance and serviceability

Review peer optics, thermal conditions, diagnostics and documentation. For short links, compare supported DAC and AOC options before selecting separate pluggable modules.

Your next step

Submit the known endpoints and route. Missing firmware or loss measurements can be clarified later, but should remain visible before a final SKU is approved. Reach labels alone do not establish channel acceptance.
